Three Song Listen Thursday #1
Yes, I know I still haven't released the post of the best albums from last year. It's coming along, little by little.
However, the oldest entries of my Three Song Listen list are even older at this point, going onto three years.
And time keeps on moving on, every now and then I add new entries to this list...
Anyway, lets get to it. My goal is to make this into a weekly series (excluding when I'm on vacation from work).
Chris Webby / Inpatient
was at the top of the list (=the oldest entry), but I've been listening to the Inpatient songs he's been on, so I've already heard two songs at least. Inpatient is a new duo he formed with Ren. I haven't heard the song they released yesterday, so I'll listen to all three now and see how I feel. This is more like an Inpatient Three Song Listen / Deep Dive, though (because they only have three songs so far)...
Ren is wonderful.
Chris Webby announces well, I can make out the lyrics without looking them up. Based on Down the Road his voice might get annoying over time, but I won't judge him based on one song. Maybe it's just a twang/rasp he has on his voice on this particular song. The beat / instrumental is great.
Instigator is alright. Not as good as Down the Road. And Chris Webby has that same annoying nasal sound here as the previous song. So many rappers have been doing it lately (like, in the past 5 to 10 years) and I don't know why. It very rarely sounds good.
I like the consistent cover art style across the three singles.
Both of their flows were insane in Neurodivergent.
All and all, I probably won't listen to more of him, but won't mind hearing him from time to time either.
Gangstagrass
No recollection of who or what this is.
I haven't heard any songs either.
I'll just do their three most popular songs.
Long Hard Times To Come (Justified Main Title Theme). Ft. T.o.n.e-z. ;
Accidentally listened to Honey Babe instead of the 2nd most popular (shuffle was on).
And for the 3rd I clicked the 2nd most popular song, You Can Never Go Home Again.
It's hiphop, mixed with some country influences. Their bio says it's Bluegrass Hiphop. It's alright. I like the rap. Bluegrass or country aren't really my thing. Way too cishet and conservative, and conventional. Not my scene. The hiphop does make it a little more interesting.
I actually liked You Can Never Go Home Again. It had a more melancholic sound. Reminds me of old gospel songs, blues, etc.
And I'm not completely opposed to country, you know... Mossback and Withouse 40k have had country influences, I like Johnny Cash, I like some Dolly Parton songs, even Ashnikko did Working Bitch and Scene Queen did MILF. I'm just uneducated on the genre.
