Weekly Recap (Sept 8th-14th, 2025)
On Monday on my way to and from work I listened to Slipknot (25th Anniverary Edition) by - you guessed it - SlipKnoT.
I don't think I've ever heard the album in full. I've heard some old SlipKnoT fans talk about it, though, and from their description "it's so heavy, bro, none of these new soft pussy ass 'sLiPkNoT fAn' girls could not handle it" 🤣 Seriously, my quote ain't that far off from what they sound like. Bro, I think Wait and Bleed is a soft song. I've always thought it's kinda soft. That's why I liked it as a teen, though, so I'll give you that. A couple years later Surfacing was my favorite rage-out song at one point.
I've heard maybe a third these songs before - (sic), Eyeless, Wait and Bleed, Surfacing and Spit It Out. 5 out of 16, if I counted correctly.
I don't know if it's just because I haven't heard these before, but at least Tattered & Torn and Purity sound a bit more experimental. Purity developed a proper melodic chorus, though. Just the beginning was more alternative. Liberate is such a banger! -- No, this is all quite experimental. I just didn't get it as a teen, because everything was new, so I didn't really know what "normal" sounded like.
Previously unrelesed demos, interesting! Or at least, demos that didn't make the cut into the album. I've mainly listened to SlipKnoT's single releases. I heard them on tv channels like MTV and The Voice that showed music videos. I've also listened to them excessively on YouTube. I've heard them on the radio, on Radio Rock. And if our local library had some of their albums, I've listened to those - I don't remember if they had them, though.
This early stuff reminds me of Mudvayne. Like, a lot.
And in most cases, I prefer the demos. They're more raw, more real and authentic in a way...
I don't hear the difference between the original and the different mixes, at least, you know... if I heard them separately from each other, I wouldn't be able to tell which one's which.
Tuesday
On my way to work, I listened to Duck Rock by Malcolm McLaren from 1982. I read from the Can't Stop Won't Stop that we're supposed to hate him, but I don't remember why, I read the chapter like 1-2 months ago...
Eminem made a reference to Buffalo Gals! "Two trailer park girls go 'round the outside, 'round the outside, 'round the outside" instead of "buffalo gals".
There's a documentary about him (McLaren) that was listed in CSWS as well, maybe when I watch that it'll explain some things to me. I have a vague idea that he was super fake or something like that.
As is, the music is quite mediocre. I don't hate it, but it isn't the best I've heard, by any means. Not best hiphop, not even best old school hiphop, not the best latino music either.
On my way from work I listened to Primeval: Obsession//Detachment by Tallah.
I wonder if the first and last song names are time stamps? If they really made this album in two hours?
What a magnificent chaos this album is, especially my primeval obsession and A primeval detachment! 10/10!
Wednesday
On my way to work I listened to The Arsonist by Sodom. It was alright.
On my way from work I listened to Labyrinthine by Faetooth. Beautiful, absolutely beautiful 🖤
Thursday
On my way to work I listened to Hit It! by vianova. Oh the glory of crossover music ❤️ Man, this gave me a rush of feel-good hormones <3 Also, this album is near damn perfect. There are a couple guttural vocals that are left a bit flat, they need a bit more practise to become fuller-sounding, to have more power and oomph. But this is like a solid 98/100 from me.
Dream collab: vianova x Tallah. That would be such a glorious chaos, omg ❤️
On my way back home I tried listening to INERTIA by grandson, but I was so pissed for no reason (welcome to the life riddled with random anxiety symptoms) that I couldn't focus. I'll give it another try next week.
Friday
On my way to work I listened to The "Chirping" Crickets by Buddy Holly & The Crickets from 1957 for the 1001 Albums book.
Sounds good, traditional rock and roll.
I've heard That'll Be The Day before, probably in the radio or on some random library CD I've listened to as a teen.
Then I listened to the Release Radar Backlog
- Hidden Renaissance x New Villain x T H R O N E - Pickney of Babylon (Nice flows. Not to mention the lyrics.)
- Lil Mariko - Better Late Than Ugly (Meh. Not as funny as her old songs. This is annoying. The line is always thin with music like this - "shallow" girl meme/humor music - and she's on the wrong side now.)
- Samtar - Fearless Spirit (👏👏👏 Talent.)
On my way from work I just listened to The Vibe.
Saturday
I also worked Saturday this week, but in a different library, much closer to home.
On my way to work I listened to M.a.M.A. by Snow Tha Product. Fuck Trump 🖕
Then I listened to the Release Radar Backlog, since I had time to get a few songs in before work.
- JID - Behold (I followed him more because other people like him than because I do... He raps well, but I don't feel any kind of personal connection to him or his music.)
- Qveen Herby - Sensational (Love. She always slays when she raps.)
- Twenty One Pilots - City Walls (I've never gotten into their lore, but I like their music. I feel like I don't have the mental capasity anymore to get deeply into anything... Lyrical breakdowns, or band lore, or language learning, or art projects, or anything... I'm making some changes to my life, though, and that hopefully helps...)
On my way from work I listened to Nerve by Orbit Culture. It was so good! 🤘🖤
