Weekly Recap (Aug 18th - 24th, 2025)
Monday
On my way to work I listened to Still Life (Remastered) by Opeth from 1999. I believe it was on some Loudwire list, "Best progressive metal albums of the 1990s" or something like that. I remember seeing a list with that name.
-- Perfection. I'm in heaven. Wouldn't change a thing 🖤
On my way home listened to The Naught by Insane Clown Posse.
🤡🤡 5/100. 👎 Boooo!
Back when I was a teenager and listened to music on YouTube a lot, there was a fan upload of a song, where the headline said it's SlipKnoT, but it was actually Insane Clown Posse. I don't remember which song it was, but I liked it. Despite being, like, 95% sure it wasn't actually SlipKnoT.
But this - this is barely music. There's a boring beat in every song, so technically it counts as music. Flows are either boring AF or nonexistant. Lyrics suck. And I thought they were supposed to be funny? They're not, unless your sense of humor = second-hand embarrassment.
Tuesday
On my way to work, I continued the Duke Ellington album, from the 2nd cd. It was better than the first. More trombone, less saxophone. I think. Well, anyway, it sounded better than the first one. Would not listen to it again, though. Not my thing.
I listened until Pt. II: Blues to Be There.
At work I was busy and had a lot of thinking to do, so I just listened to The Vibe.
On my way back from work I finished the Duke Ellington album and then listened to Katatonia.
Wednesday
On my way to work I listened to LP! by JPEGMAFIA. I like it. It's alternative. I like alternative. -- I didn't know he's an artist! I thought JPEGMAFIA was a group. It sounds like a group name, being "a mafia".
On my way from work I listened to the Release Radar Backlog.
- Bad Omens - Specter (Bad Omens is BACK, OMG!!)
- Yeat x FKA twigs - FLY NITË (That switch-up!)
- Snow Tha Product - Sabado (I'm kinda speechless.)
Thursday
On my way to work I listened to Band of Brothers by Warmen. It's not at all like I expected it to be. The name "war men" makes me think of power metal, but as it turns out, this is... metalcore? Modern metal? -- "Push[ing] further into melodic death metal territory" says Spotify. And apparently they're Finnish. That's probably why I've heard their name before. I don't mind listening to them more in the future, full albums that is. I'm not that interested in their old albums or single releases. But I'll make a mental note of the name.
At work I listened to:
- Ethel Cain - Willoughby Tucker, I'll Always Love You (2025). I loved everything from Willoughby's Interlude forward, including the interlude. The songs before that were pretty good, too. This album may require another proper listen, though.
On my way home I was kinda tired, so I just listened to The Vibe.
Friday
On my way to work I listened to Star Line by Chance The Rapper.
This is just my opinion: He sounds kinda average. But then, when I actually think of all the rap I've ever heard, he's better than average. But on the level of the best ones in the game? No.
Letters was one of the best songs on the album, and Just a Drop.
On my way home I listened to The South Bronx Story by ESG. Released in 2000, recorded in 1981-1991. It's from the Can't Stop Won't Stop book, but a rock band, again. Maybe it's the subject matter? Talking about South Bronx, the same (general) area where hiphop was born.
There isn't much lyricism here, though. It's pretty boring music.
On Saturday morning I watched to the new Knox Hill music video for Bloody Murder.
Woo! Metalcore screams for the win! Haha. That was an awesome twist!
It actually made me shed a tear when the metal part started 🖤 Metal is an incredibly dear genre to me, I've been a metalhead since I was 11, and I love to see other starting to get what it is about. 🖤
And whoever's doing the screaming it doing an awesome job (Vara Alta, huh? Haven't heard of them, gave them a follow on Spotify)! So many different sounds the singer's able to produce, with an even, healthy-sounding tone (I hate it when a singer's voice sounds like it's about to crack like a teenage boy's), AND their annunciation is so good I can make out every single word? Sheesh, you don't hear that every day (unfortunately)!
Oh, and I guess Knox's parts in the song were fine as well, lol 😂 I just can't help it, the metal stole the show today compeletely.. I'm so happy I'm not even sorry for forgetting everything he was rapping (what I could make out that is).
