Mirar - Ascension (Album Initial Thoughts)
I'm listening to this because Nik Nocturnal made such a compelling case saying they're "lightyears ahead of everyone else" in the metal game.
I probably won't have a lot to say, since it's all instrumental, but we'll see. I want to make a note about listening to it anyways.
Couronne was an intro, quite short.
Tombe is longer, a proper song lenght. Sounds good. I love prog metal and that's basically what this is. They just do it their way. And call it deathcore? -- Googled, they don't. It's "progressive metal project".
Mauvais Œil. Aight. A bit heavier than Tombe. I don't prefer either or, both sound good to me.
Charnier. I didn't notice the song changing. I like the piano part, that's different. Not something you hear in metal every day.
Faux-Amis. Heard. On Friday, I think. It's good. Aggressive. The piano melody in the background suits the song well.
Présage. Everything's in French. I wonder if the band is French... -- Two members, one French and one Norwegian.
Épreuve. Again, I missed the song changing. I like how they've mixed it to be a cohesive piece of work. Artists don't do that enough anymore.
Sur Ses Épaules. Maybe I don't understand enough about guitars or maybe Nik lives in his deathcore bubble, but I don't see how this is groundbreaking... It's great music, don't get me wrong, but it's not like... earth-shatteringly different from everything else I've ever heard.
Failles. 🤘 I like the rave disco transition between the songs! That's something I haven't heard before!
Défiance. Here we go! This and the previous song have stuff I haven't heard before, something new. I like this a lot. Macabrely beautiful album cover as well, btw.
Confiance. How did they make these sounds with instruments is beyond me... The melody/rhythm keeps surprising my brain, I love it.
Ma Pierre. Cinematic. Gorgeous.
Saint Matthieu. It's like I'm in space <3 And then it hits me with the metal, bringing me back to earth with a bang 😂 Not sure how I feel about that. I love the space.
Yeah, I get it now. They're onto something. Imma keep following them on Spotify. They're def a band to keep an eye on.
