Weekly Recap (Feb 26th - March 3rd, 2024)
Discover Weekly
- Grim Salvo - Walt Disney Wormdog (10/10, love this!! Really need to get to doing a Deep Dive on them, when I finish making The Vibe playlist.)
- Jordan Fiction - Gallowdance (It's like legit goth rock, but with a modern twist. Definitely The Vibe.)
- NOCTICA - Afterlife (The Vibe. And she's trans! 🏳️⚧️ Always down to support a fellow trans person. Btw, this is what the trans flag looks like on computer... A white flag and the ⚧️ symbol... I checked and it looks like this on the finished text as well... This lowkey sucks. Why can't we have a proper emoji on the computer? It's not that hard, the rainbow flag 🏳️🌈 works just fine!)
- REVEL ft. SPRAWL - SPIRAL (Robo-bot sounds! :3 And a choir.)
- Karmella - Porcelain Roots (There's still learning to be done, to really polish the technique on the screams, but otherwise this sounds awesome! The screams are ok.)
- Ludovico Technique - Noise Is Gone
- Seething Akira - Punishment Instructions (Well that was... energetic.)
- Bad Omens - Never Know (This is what they sounded before? Ok, I don't have to bother doing a Deep Dive of them anytime soon. No offense, it's just a bit... emo. Where as the newest album is... An epitome of modern metal.)
- For The Wicked - Beez Neez (Again, much potential. But not quite there yet.)
- MAELSTORM BLVCK - A Transformation (Wow, proper metal!)
- Combichrist - Modern Demon
- YMIR - Rise (Pretty good!)
Spotify is getting there... there was some proper metal, and The Vibe, on this week's Discover Weekly. Only one attempt to push me cover songs. But most of the list was still very pop- and emo-influenced and that's not what I'm looking for, so... It's not perfect. But it's getting there.
Release Radar
- 1Jonne x Asa x Pyhimys - Kaikki hyväks kääntyy (It's alright. Based on this, 1Jonne is... ok. Not my thing. But I like Asa and Pyhimys, so...)
- Statik G - My Truth (Amazing <3)
- Mr. Bill x Infected Mushroom - Rawthentic
- Chrissy Chlapecka - I'm Really Pretty (She's really my kinda humor 🏳️🌈 💅🏻)
- EMELINE - Iconique (Eurovision-esque banger... I wonder if she's queer, I can't remember...)
- Twenty One Pilots - Overcompensate (edit) (The video's premiere is today, I think? I like this!)
- Arankai - POISON (It's ok, it's like, a rock song. I prefer it when he does rap or metal, over these softer songs. But his voice is still great <3)
- Blind Channel ft. From Ashes to New - XOXO (They have a new album out today, right? I might check it out, we'll see how I feel later.)
- Sunspear ft. Nik Nocturnal & Termina - Through the Pines (🤟🏻)
- KID BRUNSWICK - Collide (🤟🏻)
- New Years Day - Half Black Heart (Very catchy, very metal. Not my cup of tea everyday, but works today.)
- Plugs of Apocalypse - Deep Within (Ok, Spotify is starting to catch up that I want more metal. Good.)
- Linkin Park - Friendly Fire (I don't like it that Linkin Park keeps releasing songs like the band's still operating normally... It's starting to feel like a cash grab... RIP Chester.)
- nothing, nowhere. - XXX (YES!! Rap and metal and eveything and 🖤!!)
Watched the video for Twenty One Pilots' Overcompensate on Saturday and it made the song even better. I don't have enough words to write an Initial Thoughts post, but like... wow. They're musical geniuses, all their music is 🔥.
Also, this crowd sucks :D they just stare blankly when he's killing the performance, some even walk away when he gets among them, and only after he collapses, they care. Very symbolical.
And how they have these layers in their stuff... It's up to the individual if they want to just enjoy the catchy, well-produced, talented music or to REALLY get into the lore they have behind all the musicianship and videography. Or you can be where I am, somewhere in between.
Listened through Blind Channel's new album and it was pretty good. Not like... "over the top amazing, I need to write about this on my blog immediatelly!!" kinda good, but like... The guys are from Oulu, Finland, which was the nearest city from where I grew up in, and they're only about 1-5 years younger than me, and they're basically a modern day nu metal band I was a nu metal kid in my teens, so... I feel a sense of familiarity with them.
I liked all the songs, but Die Another Day stuck out to me. I even put it on The Vibe playlist. It won't stay there, but for now, it needs to be there. The song is a non-cheesy "please don't kill yourself" song... Some of them can be cheesy and... I'm struggling to find the right words... Some of the songs with that premise are abundantly clearly written by people who have never felt suicidal themselves and don't know what it's like, and it's obvious when you look at the lyrics. This was clearly written by someone who has been through it. It was authentic and I felt like it spoke to me.
Songs on The Vibe playlist make me feel a certain way. I guess the feeling is similar to mindfulness, like, I'm 100% present in the moment. Except in this case, the "moment" is what the song makes me feel and think... So, I'm 100% present in my body and my mind, and that usually makes me feel less space-y and foggy, makes my thoughts clearer and therefore makes me feel more like me and more confident in myself. But I do have a slight fear it might do the opposite, especially with so many of the songs being so sad, lyrically. That I'll get stuck in my own head with my own thoughts, and if you've ever struggled with your mental health, you know what that can be like. So, I think it's important that I sprinkle in there songs that bring me hope, just in case I happen to need them.
The effect of the song is going to wear down over time, and then I'll probably remove it from the playlist (and replace it with something else), but for now... It's staying.

Ennaria made a video for Monstarrr! It's just as good as the song, matches it perfectly!
