Ashnikko - Halloweenie V: The Moss King (Song & Visualiser - Thoughs)
I've seen the visualiser maybe a dozen times in the past 7 hours it's been up, heard the song on Spotify maybe a dozen times more, and here are some of my thoughts:
- is the logo in the beginning a new Ashnikko logo?
- how fucking perfectly the visuals of the visualiser and the lyrics fit the Weedkiller album she just released (including Aster, the main character of the album and the DC comic)
- the crescent moon, which we see in the visualiser, often represents a new beginning in New Age religion, which Ash is into
- visually, it's giving Possession of a Weapon - Ash surrounded by other beings, being a center of a ritual
- in Possession on a Weapon, I think it was about celebrating the female form and female body (Ash), celebrated by women (being queer, plus some New Age religion references to chakras etc in the lyrics - I'll get to this song eventually)
- in The Moss King, it's more literal - she's literally The Moss King, the royal leader of the plants, and is worshipped by trees/ents
- Ash is genderfluid = sometimes she identifies as a woman and sometimes as a man (something in between is also an option, but the point is that it varies)
- in Possession of a Weapon she is celebrated for her female form
- in The Moss King, she's the king - it's also a reference to Daisy, one of her most popular songs, where she says "fuck a princess, I'm a king", because she's genderfluid and because kings have more power than queens or princesses. It has become a fan inside "joke" to call her "The King". Ash is saying, "Yes, I'm the king. - The Moss King". She's the king, the boss, the GOAT.
- I will CERTAINLY do a separate lyrical breakdown of the lyrics! I just need a bit more time to digest them.
- she's dancing, so the song as (at least) two elements of hiphop - rap and b-girling
- the internal rhymes are insanely good and I can never do them justice - I pitched the song to Knox, he won't probably pick up on it, but lets hope he does...
- the obvious - her body is growing moss
- the saying "a rolling stone gathers no moss" & she IS gathering moss --> "People who are always moving, with no roots in one place or another, avoid responsibilities and cares." -Publilius Syrus --> Ash is growing up. She used to feel rootless because she lived in 4 different countries before she even turned 20. Now she's lived in London for 9 years and has a British girlfriend and a dog. She's laying down her roots in London, she's no longer avoiding responsibilities or caring of others, such as a partner or a dog.
