Three Song Listen Thursday #2

Stormzy

I took his newest song (from August last year), ODUMODUBLVCK - PAY ME (feat. Stormzy & Zlatan) and his two most popular songs on Spotify: BACKBONE and Own It (feat. Ed Sheeran & Burna Boy).

Sure, I like it. Three very different songs (granted, half weren't really his - he's featuring on PAY ME and BACKBONE is a 50-50 collab with some guys called Chase&Status it seems (or maybe that's a group, idk). 

He's put out albums every 2-3 years, but now it's been 4 years. His last singles as a solo artist are from a year ago, so maybe his next album comes out this year?

He sounds like many of those rappers I took off from my NOW playlist some months ago. The ones who seem great but whose music I don't instantly click with.

The Worst Of Us

I've heard but don't remember the song ANTAGONIST RETURNS, and it's their most popular song. Imma listen to that again and also GLORY and Eternal Sickness.

Some kinda metalcore. 

Oh, I've added everyone from ANTAGONIST RETURNS to my list. The Worst Of Us, ALEX, TOKYO ROSE & THE AKUMA. It was an ok metalcore song, I guess...

The other two The Worst Of Us songs were ok as well. Something I would have loved as a teenager, but is a bit soft and mainstream for my taste now. Idk why I've added them to my list 3-4 years ago...

ALEX

I know he's on ANTAGONIST RETURNS, but I picked three other songs: VILLAIN, which I love, it's on The Vibe. And AKUMA & ANTAGONIST. Might have wanted to listen to ANTAGONIST first and then ANTAGONIST RETURNS, but I believe these are songs Spotify fed me, so that was out of my control...

Love VILLAIN (ft. Megan McDuffee), the weird industrial beat, the lowkey angelic but menacing singing, and then the screams that are like a cherry on top.

AKUMA is featuring/collab with TOKYO ROSE, Rachel Mcalpine & THE AKUMA. Those three seem to like collabs? Assuming they're all solo artists.

A bit monotone, no interesting switch ups like VILLAIN had.

ANTAGONIST also has TOKYO ROSE & AKUMA. 

They're like video game background music. It's boring on it's own, but would work as something to get you pumped up when you do something else at the same time.

TOKYO ROSE

I've heard the songs mentioned above, and I've heard them today, so I think a third song is enough. And that'd be one I've already heard from him (her? them?), Dark Sun. 

Oh, this one! I really really like it. It's on The Vibe playlist. Idk if I should listen more... Seemingly all his songs have ALEX in them, but not all were as good as this one.

THE AKUMA

For the third song I picked RIVALS. Aaaaand it has all three on it again :D 

It's the video game music style again.
