Weekly Recap (Sept 29th - Oct 5th, 2025)

Monday

On my way to work I listened to CARNAL (Deluxe) by NOTHING MORE. I'm not a huge fan of the teen girl metal/rock music genre, and this seems to fall under that category. They have their moment, though, like the electronic elements, the spoken intros and one of the songs having rapped verses. I also like his voice when he's belting. His screaming ain't bad, I don't mind it. Emo teen girl metal bands sometimes have the most horrid screams, almost as if they chose the singer based on looks and not artistic talent *cough cough*.
I checked what the band looks like and they're older than I expected. Possibly older than me. -- Yup, he's 38. In teen years, that's ancient.

On my way back home I listened to Silent Calls From The Other Side (EP) by Celestial Silence. I loved the first song, Crippled Solitude. Very melancholic, very beautiful. -- This is their first release? Cool! A one-EP Deep Dive! 😄 -- I don't care for the vocals, the traditional black metal style (?), characterized by the lack of pitch and intentionally bad sound quality. I don't mind the latter, if it's done in a certain way. But a lack of pitch... no. I don't care if you're an emo teen metal band singer or a trve cvlt black metal singer - bad pitch is bad pitch and it sounds awful. No one likes the sound of a teenage boy hitting puberty. Being able to scream on pitch and announce properly while doing so - now, that's impressive!
I like these instrumentals. If the entire album was instrumental, I'd put it all on my playlist. Even if the verses are a bit repetitive - they're letting the vocals "shine" their flickering, weak light.
Sorry not sorry for being a hater. This is my blog. If you don't agree with me, you're free to start your own for your own opinions.

Then I listened to Midnight Sun by Zara Larsson. Me and my fiancé both love her song Can't Tame Her and people have been talking about her a lot lately, all the way in America!
I skimmed through the PinkNews article about this album today and it said Midnight Sun is the single release..? -- Seems so, along with Crush and Pretty Ugly. -- I prefer Blue Moon over Midnight Sun. Neither are as big bangers as Can't Tame Her, though. Love the high notes on Blue Moon
Pretty Ugly slapped me across the face, in a good way! Feminine energy and rap flows?? Yes, please!! Now, THIS is a banger!
Same with Girl's Girl! She's queer? That's what the PinkNews article hinted to as well, kinda. The headline was something like "Zara Larsson says her new album 'is for the girls, gays and thems'". She is also one of the songwriters, so it could be her crush to her childhood friend, who's a girl.
Crush is a pretty good pop song.
Eurosummer is meh, average pop. Same as the two first songs.
I like the vibe of Hot & Sexy. People who know me, know that I'm a metalhead. But people who really know me, know that music like this, campy, hyper-superficial glitzy pop music, is a huge weakness for me as well.
We don't talk about slow songs. 🤐
Puss Puss is a clumsy attempt to underline that she's Swedish. It means the kiss sounds, like Mwah Mwah. They already have Midnight Sun. I would feel different if the entire song was in Swedish. Then the headline, which looks dirty to English speakers, would have been clever.

Tuesday
On my way to work I listened to Brilliant Corners (1956) by Thelonius Monk for the 1001 Albums project.
It's jazz, I'm not too keen. How these drummers don't die of boredom is beyond me.
At least this isn't super annoying like some other jazz albums I've heard. Apart from a few very loud piano notes in I Surrender, Dear, I was able to doze off and enjoy the foggy scenery and beautiful frost covering the fields and parches of grass visible from the bus window. Winter is coming 🥶 Music wasn't enjoyable this morning, but nature was.

On my way home I listened to Amen by Igorrr. It was so weird and unique all the way through that I need to listen to all of it again, probably multiple times. This album is a perfect description of my brain. I'm too much of an overachiever, I try to do way too much and only quit at the brink of a burnout...

I decided to switch things up and structure my free time less than in the past year or so. Which, for one, means less albums per week.

On Wednesday, I did end up listening to the shhh EP by REI AMI, from 2023. body bag is my favorite song from her, and the rest of the EP was pretty awesome as well!

Thursday
Arppa - Peppuni kanssa. It was fun. Fun topics like Mountain Dew, cooking, etc.
