Weekly Recap (Aug 4th-10th, 2025)
On Monday on my way to work I listened to Full Moon by Moonchild Sanelly.
Very entertaining, and the African language(s) and music influences make it stand out from other pop rap I've listened to.
I had the time so I also listened to Jellywish by Florist.
She has a pretty voice, but this isn't my thing at all. Soft indie pop stuff.
On my way from work I listened to Re-Revolution (Deluxe Edition) by Art Nation.
Well-made power metal. It's a nice subgenre, in small doses.
On Tuesday on my way to work I listened to BODIES by Thornhill. I haven't heard of them before, but I love how versatile this is! I followed them for more, this is very entertaining and impressive!
At work I listened to:
- Ginger Evil - The Way It Burns. A Finnish rock band. Pretty good, but nothing I haven't heard before. (5.8., 65/100, C tier.)
- Heartworms - Glutton For Punishment. Kinda like... alternative pop (like ZAND and the like) mixed with old school goth rock (like The Cure). Very nice! Followed for more.
- Ina Forsman - After Dark Hour. Amazing voice! Wow! Spotify says it's soul. Not exactly my kinda music, but you know... Pure talent is pure talent, there's no denying that.
Listened to The Vibe on my way from work, I was tired AF. Haven't been sleeping that well lately.
On Wednesday on my way to work I listened to Might Delete Later by J. Cole.
Interesting in the sense that a couple of years ago, I know I wouldn't have liked this. I would have just heard the N-word and "bitch" over and over again, a monotone tone and a flow I can't follow. Now I hear the lyrics (what I can translate in my head fast enough to understand it while the song is playing varies, though) and can follow the flow better.
Hmm, I don't mind Central Cee in H.Y.B... Maybe Can't Rush Greatness is just a bad album? -- It was his debut album? But he was one of the headliners of Flow festival in Finland? What did he achieve before his debut album?
On my way back I just listened to The Vibe and Introvert Rave playlists and some Grim Salvo.
On Thursday, on my way to work, I listened to This Is Fats Domino! by Fats Domino.
Did Savage Ga$p sample The Fat Man's Hop, the piano from the beginning, or is it an accident that they happen to have the same note and rhythm? Could be either way.
At work I listened to:
- Femi Kuti - Journey Through Life. Afrobeat/jazz/funk (had to check Wikipedia lol). Music isn't my usual thing but I like the political lyrics.
- HAIM - I quit. Lyrics are pretty good, but the music is boring AF, ngl. Don't get me wrong, it's not goddarn awful. It's good music, and she's diverse genre-wise, while still sounding like herself in every song. But the compositions are extremely predictable and quite repetitive.
- Infected Mushroom - REBORN. I've heard multiple of these songs before and loved them so much I needed to hear the rest. And now I finally am.
On Friday, on my way to work, I listened to Never, Neverland (2024) by Unto Others.
A nice mixture of metal, rock and punk.
At work, I started The Clash's Sardinista!, but didn't finish (it's about 2h 20min long). Listened to until Police On My Back.
On the weekend, I didn't listen to that much music, we had family over. We did watch TV and there were a couple of interesting TV shows related to music, that I plan to watch occasionally in similar situations: Suomi Soi, in which Finnish artists make Finnish versions of songs that are in other languages, and Elämäni Biisi, in which celebrities try to guess each other's "song of their life" from a selection of songs (they enter the song into the show beforehand and professional musicians perform all the songs in the show).
