DAMAG3 (D33P DIV3)

Singles and EPs
WHAT HAPP3N3D? ft. Pertinence
- Heard on YouTube. A FUCKING BANG3R!

MY TIM3 x Eryon x King Myle$
- Haven't heard before. Pretty effing good! Chorus ain't for me, but otherwise all three are great!

DOUBL3 TAK3
- Heard a gazillion times, still suck a banger! The song I like to play people as their first DAMAG3 song, since there they explain their gender for me, I don't have to try to explain trans identities and their nuances to a bunch of cishets, plus I don't know the nuances of DAMAG3 in particular. The lyrics and THEY/THEM earrings on the video speak for themselves. It also Has A Video, and those flow switches are just... wow.

WAV3///TOO BAD x The Molecules
Haven't heard either song before.
- WAV3. Very interesting flows! Got me hooked and interested in what's going on, stealing my attention. The Molecules sounds good too, I'm a sucker for deep male voices.
- TOO BAD. Yeah, I like The Molecules on this song as well. And DAMAG3 as well. Good job guys, good song!

FR33(STYL3)DOM
- 👏👏👏

PRISON ft. Gao The Arsonist
- Heard before, I think this was my first DAMAG3 song. 10/10. I really need to check more songs by Gao The Arsonist... I've heard a lot about them before.

ON MY WAY! x KP Hunni x Roseblud
- DAMAG3 seems to really like these calm lofi-ish beats and top noch fast rap flows :D Not complaining, I think the simple beats give room to the complex flows more than a complex beat would.

Madison Hailstorm - sharp objects (DAMAG3 R3MIX)
- The screaming's ok. Could be better. Quite a metalcore/emo style. The rest follows the same style. I used to be an emo kid, but the flip side of it is that now most emo songs sound a bit juvenile to me.

G3NOCID3 ft. Changeline
- Heard before and it's 🔥🔥🔥!! The screams <3 Some of them are quite emo but I still love metal screams <3 Crossing genre boundaries.

THE VALHALLA TAPES (EP) x OJ Mountain
- x Brown_buddha: SNAK3 JAZZ. The jazz and the flow of the first rapper remind me of my favorite MC, Tommy Lindgren. These flows are freakin amazing!! Plus, MC-type rap, prog metal and jazz have more common than any of the artists of those genres often realize and they should collab/take influences from each other more!
- x jules filmhouse x made by ok!: SIN TAX. Such a calm vibe! The title's a double or a triple: sin tax, sin=without tax (?), syntax.
- x Brand The Builder: ILLUMINATED MAKESHIFT MATTRESS. I like how consistent this album is with the jazz influences. I don't like the overlapping vocal tracks on the hook.
- x khxnid! x SolH: DON'T BE LIKE YOUR BROTHER. I've been into hiphop for about 1,5 years now, I still consider myself a newbie. Before getting into it, I thought the faster a rapper spits, the better they are, but I'm learning to appreciate slower flows as well.
- x Lano x FFamily: INVERSION OF A CHORUS. I like the internal rhymes! Very nice!

DOUBL3 TAK3 (R3MIX) x Lex Bratcher x $leazy EZ
- The modified lyrics! "I put some titties on my chest", like DAMAG3 said on the live studio version! I loooove the other rappers on this song as well, they're dope!

TRASH x Changeline
- Heard on YT. Very interesting flows. This is probably ignorant, but: I haven't heard anyone with flows like DAMAG3 had on the first verse of this song. (I mean, someone probably has had similar flows before, but I do not know about them, because I'm still new to rap and therefore ignorant on it.) And the screams <3 I had to listen to it again right away, there was so much I feel like I'm still missing on this song...

LOV3 (limited edition) x Raine Stern
- Heard before on YT. It's cute :3

CONS3QU3NC3S x Cam Hayden x SolH x Sol ChYld
- The voice in the beginning sounds like Kdot! The song's great. They're all great.
- Instrumental version also has the Kdot-sounding bits, so it might actually be a Kdot sample!

BIG SMOKE x NOIR BENNY x UNDERRATED ARTIST SEASON
- Heard on YT. Fucking slaps!!

Solo Date x Raine Stern
- Another cute one. ^^

VAULT x Changeline x BBGLOS
- Heard before, it's alright. I'm not a huge fan of boasting.

BiLLY iN B3LLY x Infatuation x RJ Pasin
- Kinda got it the first time I heard it, but not really. I watched the live they did on YT (DAMAG3 - DO BETTER FEST 2024 (Full Live Set) (youtube.com)) and I think it's about the saying "eat the rich"!

Albums
TH3 PR3S3NT MOM3NT
- ROOT. I like the chilled back vibe. DAMAG3 is contemplating their past and present.
- PR3S3NT. Quite much more alternative than the other songs I've heard from them. It's meditative and... well, present. They're here. Now. And I am here. Now.
- sLOw. Heard before on YouTube, without the transitional sounds in the intro and outro. It's great! I love the flow and cadence change when "DAMAG3" calls. And the fight they have among themselves.
- M3DUSA. Very different again. I don't think I've ever heard them this angry. Sure, they rap aggressively and talk about real shit, but this is... something else. The flow after the screams is my favorite. And they just keep going <3
- STUCK (INT3RLUD3). A bunch of people smoking and drinking and talking. Some music playing. Half a minute of silence at the end. DAMAG3 was saying something, like, that they focus on making music better when they're sober, and then now they did smoke. So maybe the silence indicates that now that they relapsed, they're not making music again for a while.
- BOUNC3 (R3LAPS3). The beat is trippy, I like it. Not a fan of the hook, but these verses are fucking great!
- 5318008 x Lil Broccoli. Song title spells BOOBIES when you turn your phone upside down. An ancient schoolboy joke to write this on a calculator and show it to your friends. -- Woo, this goes harder! Interesting how they said earlier they don't want to rap about superficial things and brag, and now they are. Is it the weed talking..? Whatever it is, these two can fucking rap, OMG! And I like boobies, too, so we have something in common! Lol.
Lmao, DAMAG3 is calling again and being philosophical.
- CURR3NT. And playing this song to... themselves. The other them. "Current", like the present moment, or ocean currents. They talk a lot on this album, and in their songs in general. Very often have spoken adlibs.
- FOCUS. Ooh! This goes hard! The hook is great, maybe even better than the verses! And I generally like verses and don't like hooks!
- R3ST (OUTRO). Acoustic guitar and talking. I can't make out most of the words on the phone calls.

I like their new songs more than these. This album is from 2021, very early in their career.
But I do think it's a very cohesive piece of work and if I reaaaallyy dived deep into the album I'd find more layers. Unfortunately, my Deep Dives of artists' music are more like initial thoughts or listen throughs of all the music more than actually diving deep into every single song and album. I go waaaay deeper in my Lyrical Breakdowns (when I have the time and the energy to do them), and if I see a connection between the songs of an album, I will point it out. I am human at the end of the day, though, and still consider hiphop to be foreign territory, so I will miss things. I've said this countless of times and will say it again: This blog is my personal notes I want to make about music for my own sake, it's an extension of my brain and an outlet. It's freely accessible online just in case someone else might get something out of it.

DAMAG3
- OP3N (skit). This one opens up with a meditative bit as well. They're fighting among themselves again. Both of them have a point.
- ROM3///PR3SSUR3. I just had my morning coffee and I'm not at 100% yet, so I can't really catch that many bars (even when I look at the lyrics), but I like how this sounds.
- BY3 (skit). I'm gonna have to come back to this when my brain works better. The two voices are DAMAG3 and Nick, the real person behind the rap persona.
- CLOS3D DOORS x Cam Hayden x Pareto. A song about how we're all different behind closed doors than publicly.
- CLOUDY x Justy. I'm not a fan of Justy's voice, but I like DAMAG3's verses.
- ON MY WAY! x Rodeblud x KP Hunni. -- Featured earlier on this post. Doesn't sound as fast as I described it back then.
- SH3 (skit). It sounds like they're in a forest.
- TH3 CYCL3 x Kyra Lyra x Meredith. Oh! The woman just introduced herself as Kyra in the skit we just heard! This must be her! Slow songs ain't really my thing. Like, ballads I mean. One of the women sounds like Justy, I don't either's voice.
- VIC3 x Kyra Lyra x Eryon. Another woman with a husky voice, I find that sound quite annoying. Is it Kyra who has that voice? Also, there's A LOT of the hook here. Meh.
- ON3 (Act 1 Finale). I thought her name was Kyra? Now she said she doesn't have a name... Oh, this is them becoming themselves and coming out! This is so cool!! 🏳️‍⚧️ I hope we don't lose Nick completely, though, I hope they just merge...
- SHIN3 x Harlin. Too short, I LOVE THIS!
- N3GATIV3 (skit). Both of them have a good point. And yey, both of them still exist!
- F33LINGS. I can't make out the lyrics on the part where they rap over themselves, but I think that's the point. They feel so much even they can't make out what they feel.
- GRAV3. Heard before. 🔥!! Maybe my favorite DAMAG3 song. So metal!
- RAG3 - Pt. 1. I wonder who the other guy is. The impression of that right-wing dude was hilarious!
- PRISON x Gao The Arsonist. -- Featured earlier on this post. The previous track made this even better.
- RAG3 - Pt. 2. 🤣
- LOBOTOMY x Gullyspit. So good! 🤘🖤
- 3SCAP3 (Act 2 Finale). The right-wing douche is back, yey! He's clearly a fan, he's obsessed with DAMAG3, lmao! 😂 -- omg, he doxxed DAMAG3! Over A SONG. The right gets triggered so easily! And yes, this is most probably a made up situation (I hope it is), but this shit happens in real life as well!
- ROM3 - 3XT3NDO 3DITION x Shno Xavier x ELEMXNT. It's a bop, and I like the lyricism. Makes me feel calm, I like this a lot!

Closing thoughts
I really dig the artistry they have. They're not just making songs that have no correlation or connection to one another, which I've seen a lot of artists do - they have a narrative, they have a... a human being with a thought process behind the songs. Both of the full-length albums are concept albums, there's an overarching plot, and they're spelling it out for us through the inner dialogue they voice act for us, because we cannot read their minds, obviously. Most artists don't do that. They care more about getting a certain feeling out or writing a banger of a song, not so much about how the audience is going to perceive it on a deeper level, like... I think it's self-preservation and protection in a way, to not let the audience know your every thought, but only the products you finished and decided to publish. Well, that's also probably what DAMAG3 does, but they also talk a lot, and I mean this in a positive sense. People in general, not just artists, too often assume other people think like they think, that other people have the same ideas they have, but that might not be the case. What seems obvious to you might not be obvious to anyone else thinking about the same thing. Especially when it comes to your own thought processes and feelings and life experiences. People shouldn't be afraid of overexplaining things or saying things that were obvious to everyone. If someone tells you you're yapping or talking too much, tell them to read a book. At least you have thoughts and you're not afraid to express them.
Yes, I'm projecting. But my point is, I like that DAMAG3 talks so much on their albums and walks us through their thought process, because none of us have their brain and can't read their mind. They're the only one who can do that.
